TASMANIA TOURS FAQ
Where do the tours start?
Our Tasmania tours start in Hobart and Launceston. Days of departure vary through the year, check the tour page to work out which departure is right for you.
Should I book a flight to arrive the day before the tour starts?
Yes that is the easiest way to do it. Stay in Hobart or Launceston the night before the tour and we can arrange a pickup at your accommodation or nearby.
If you must fly in on the day the tour begins we can organise a special airport transfer to join you up with the tour that day. This costs $25 per person and is only possible for flights arriving before 8:00am.
Can I fly out of Tasmania on the final day of my tour?
Yes, for tours ending on Friday or Sunday any flight departing at 7:30pm or later from Hobart is OK. If your tour ends on Wednesday, it is only possible to fly out of Launceston, with a flight departing at 6:30pm or later. Airport dropoff can be organised at extra cost.
How many beds are in each dorm room?
Across the tour we use dorm rooms which have 4, 6 or 8 beds in each room. You can choose female only or mixed dorm rooms.
What should I bring?
Comfortable shoes to walk in, warm clothes for the mountains, light clothes for the beach, a rain jacket or umbrella, a towel and bathroom items (soap, shampoo etc). You do not need to bring a sleeping bag, sheets and blankets are provided.
What’s the weather like in Tasmania?
That depends on where you are! First of all, it’s not that cold! It only snows on high mountains in winter, never in the cities and towns.
The east coast is the dry, sunny, warm side of the island. Annual rainfall in the east is 600mm - less than half the annual rainfall in Sydney. Daily maximum temperatures in summer (December to February) are between +20 to +30 degrees celsius. In winter (June to August) daily maximums are between +12 to +18 degrees celsius.
The west coast is mountains, rainforest and untouched wilderness. Annual rainfall in the west is 2000mm, helping to create the stunning wilderness of Cradle Mountain, Lake St Clair & Mount Field. Daily maximum temperatures in summer are between +18 to +25 degrees celsius. In winter the mountains look spectacular with snow on top and daily maximums are between +5 to +15 degrees celsius.
Are meals included in the tour price?
No, to help ensure that our tours remain the most affordable in Tasmania we leave food choices up to you. Dinner time gives you the opportunity to try local restaurants or if you’d like to cook your own, cooking facilities are available at all of our accommodation.
Do I need to pay for my trip in full at time of booking?
Yes, our tours are very popular due to their great features and low cost, so we can only reserve seats once we’ve received payment in full.
How much luggage can I bring?
As our Lap of Tassie and Tassie MAX tours start and finish in the same place, we’d appreciate it if you can minimise luggage by leaving some of it in your hostel/hotel in Hobart or Launceston, bringing only those things you need for the tour. Most hostels and hotels in Tasmania offer storage facilities. Please limit the luggage you bring on tour to one backpack or suitcase (maximum 20kg) and one day pack or handbag per person.
Are there extra charges that I will have to pay?
No! Unlike other companies we do not charge extra for national park fees or fuel surcharges! We offer some optional activities that cost extra, you can choose to participate in these or not.
Are there any discounts?
Seriously? Not only are Jump tours hundreds of dollars less than other Tasmania tours, they are also the best! Don't just take our word for it - it's official! Jump Tours was awarded Best Tour & Transport Operator at the Tasmanian Tourism Awards in November 2016.
Not only that, when you book with us you have a guaranteed departure, meaning you are guaranteed to go on that tour on the day you booked. Jump Tours is the only tour operator in Tasmania that has this feature - don't risk your Tasmanian experience with anyone else!
We live on an island and that makes all our costs higher than they are in Sydney and Melbourne, but we work very hard to keep our prices as low as possible.
For tips on the best time to come to save your $$, check out our blog here!!
Is there wifi?
Much of Tasmania is wilderness - this is why so many people want to visit! In most national parks and world heritage areas there is no mobile phone signal and no wifi.
However many towns across Tasmania have free wifi, including Strahan, Sheffield, Queenstown, Launceston, Port Arthur, Bicheno & Hobart. Some accommodation also has wifi.
If you cannot be out of contact for more than a few hours, we recommend you purchase a sim for your cell or mobile phone through Telstra or Optus.
KAKADU AND LITCHFIELD TOURS FAQ
Where do the tours start?
Our Top End tours start in Darwin. Days of departure vary through the year, check the tour page to work out which departure is right for you.
Should I book a flight to arrive the day before the tour starts?
Yes, it's an adventure tour so it's best to fly in the day before and get a full night's rest before the fun begins 😛
Can I fly out of Darwin on the final day of my tour?
Sure but we'd recommend only flights departing at 8pm or later. Delays can happen and we take no responsibility for missed flights if you choose to fly out on the same day your tour ends.
What’s the weather like in the Top End?
Hot! Kakadu, Litchfield and Arnhem Land are all in the tropics, operating during what is known as the dry season, between May & November. Daily minimums are around 20 degrees celsius while maximums can hit 35 degrees plus.
What should I bring?
Comfortable shoes to walk in and light clothes (shorts, t shirts, singlets etc) for the day time. Sun cream of SPF 30+ or higher is essential. Mosquitos and other biting insects can be a problem in some areas, so we recommend you bring insect repellent and/or long clothes that cover your arms and legs. Bring a towel, bathroom items (soap, shampoo etc) and a sleeping bag or sheet (or you can hire a sleeping bag from us) plus a pillow or something to use as one!
Are meals included in the tour price?
Yes meals are included in our Northern Territory tours. If you have specific dietary requirements please inform us of these at the time of booking. Please note this is an outback tour and complex dietary requirements may not be able to be catered for.
Do I need to pay for my trip in full at time of booking?
Yes, our tours are very popular due to their great features and low cost, so we can only reserve seats once we’ve received payment in full. Your Kakadu park fee is payable on board.
How much luggage can I bring?
Please bring a small bag that can fit underneath your seat. We would appreciate it if any large backpacks or suitcases are stored at your accommodation in Darwin during the tour. Our luggage space is limited, so we ask that you bring no more than 10kg of luggage on board.
Are there extra charges that I will have to pay?
Only if you wish to rent a sleeping bag, this costs $30 per person
Are there any discounts?
We’ve created our tours to be an excellent low cost option for everyone, so we can’t make the price any lower! We operate in isolated areas where costs are much higher than they are in the major cities, but we work very hard to keep our prices as low as possible, while still giving you the best tour experience ever 🙂
Who operates the tour and do I need to reconfirm?
Wayoutback Australian Safaris is the ground operator for our Kakadu & Litchfield Tour. Wayoutback requires that tour bookings are reconfirmed at least 48 hours before departure by calling 08 8300 4900.
